But PT2 and now PT3 do an excellent job of sticking to that sound and coming as close to that level of quality as they could.

Part of it is also that PT1 was just so damn good that it's not ever going to be possible to top that. I'm not as young and impressionable as I was in 2010. The third one can't possibly have the same impact on me. I think like said, part of it is also that I'm not in the same place as when I first heard the original Pilot Talk. "Example", "Address", and "Life Under the Scope" for example, are far from being just weed raps. Whether it's old school cars, video games, obscure athletes, Curren$y is one of the most clever rappers around, just not in the most traditional sense. He does it in an honest way that never feels fake or too bragadocious, and his knowledge of his favorite subjects is so deep that it adds another layer. I smoked this, had this bad ass chick with me, drove this car, but the way he does it separates him from every other rapper doing that. Yeah, a lot of what he raps about is just every day stuff. I'm not trying to say he's the deepest rapper, he's never going to make an album like To Pimp a Butterfly, but there's way more to him than the average listener gives him credit for. Wiz is just like "yeah I live this life", Curren$y is painting a picture of a certain lifestyle to set the scene and make the comparison of selling music to drug trafficking. "Yeah, I smoke good weed, so these fuck *****s hate itīought thirty-five bottles, just to get faded It's not fair to sum it all up with a few lines, but just to give an example of what a typical verse might entail: Unlike most weed rappers, Wiz Khalifa for example, who rap about how much weed they smoke and how much fun they have doing it and that's the end of it, Curren$y incorporates weed references into a bigger picture. My favorite beat on the album is by Mos Def, who doesn't even seem to produce like that.Ĭurren$y often gets written off as a weed rapper and nothing more, and while there's no denying that it's a mainstay in his subject matter, it's far from being all he's about. They could do no wrong in the making of this album, everything turned to gold. Curren$y and Ski have one-of-a-kind chemistry, and this was the height of that beautiful marriage. Some of that is Ski Beatz being on another planet, some is live instrumentation, partly Curren$y's laid back but dominant presence, his unappreciated lyricism (more on that soon), but some of it is just capturing that perfect artistic moment. It's beyond explanation, but hearing that album was like opening a new door in my mind.like, oh it is possible for something to sound this fresh. Pilot Talk was literally Audio Dope in the sense that the sound of that album changed the way I looked at rap music. It's on the same level as albums like MBDTF, Channel Orange, Returnof4eva.modern marvels. I realize it's not seen that way by the hip-hop community as a whole, but I know some others on this board feel the same way. The first Pilot Talk is just a monumental album.

CURREN Y PILOT TALK TRILOGY TRACKLIST SERIES
So after running through the trilogy this morning there's one key point for me regarding the series and any comparisons of the three albums.
